Per the United States Coast Guard regulations, a bareboat charter is a demise charter where the Charterer (renter) takes temporary ownership of a vessel during the chartered time. As the temporary owner, the Charterer is responsible for the vessel, his/her Passengers, selecting a capable Operator/Captain, and furnishing supplies such as food and drinks. A bareboat chartered vessel may not exceed 1 Charterer (the renter) + 12 Passengers (13 total) before a hired crew, regardless of whether it is moored, underway, or anchored.

You must be at least 21 years old to rent and charter a boat as the “Charterer.” There is no age requirement to be a passenger of the Charterer.
For bareboat (12 passenger) charters, after booking, we provide the Charterer with a confirmation email listing vetted Operators/Captains familiar with our vessel. You may also choose your own qualified Operator/Captain, provided their credentials are approved by us prior to your charter. Please email us at support@poseidonchicagocharters.com with any Operator/Captain credentials for approval.
Operators / Captains typically command $100 – $150 per hour before gratuity. It is customary to leave a gratuity of 15-20%. Payment and gratuity can be handled directly with your Captain. Per federal regulations, we cannot collect any payment for your captain or crew.
To provide an accurate quote, we typically need to know the desired date and time of your charter, the number of guests, the type of event or occasion, and any specific requests you may have.
We generally accept major credit cards, bank transfers, and Zelle. Please inquire about specific payment options during the booking process.
Yes, a 50% deposit is typically required to confirm your yacht charter reservation.
The base price of our charters typically includes the yacht rental, fuel cost, standard amenities such as a cooler or fridge, onboard premium sound systems and basic cleaning. Captain’s fees are not included in your yacht charter cost.
Depending on your charter, additional costs may include water toys, catering and beverages, optional crew upgrades, fuel surcharges (for extended cruising), docking fees at specific locations, and gratuity for the captain and crew.
Full Refund: Cancellations made 14 days before the booking date. 50% Refund: Cancellations made 13 – 5 days before the booking date. No Refunds: Cancellations made within less than 4 days of the scheduled charter.
Safety is our top priority. On the day of your charter, our team will assess weather conditions. Uncharterable weather conditions are typically the result of (but are not limited to) heavy storms, waves forecasted over 4 feet, small craft advisory warnings, gale storms, and strong winds. Light rain and passing storms are typically considered safe. In the case of unsafe weather, we will work with you to reschedule your charter to a future date.
We are located on I Dock at Diversey Harbor, 2601 Cannon Dr. Chicago IL 60614.
Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure to allow ample time to walk from drop-off or parking to our dock, check in, get settled, and depart on time.
We highly recommend utilizing rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft to avoid parking challenges and delays. Street parking is available along Cannon Drive and surrounding area but it can be limited on weekends, holidays, and during major events. There is also a paid public parking garage at St. Joseph Hospital, 2900 N Lake Shore Drive, Chicago.
Per United States Coast Guard regulations, the maximum number of passengers is 12. Captain and crew are not counted at passengers. Please ensure your guest count does not exceed the yacht’s capacity for safety reasons.
Yes, we allow children on board. Please note that they do count toward the total capacity, and ages 13 or younger must wear a life jacket at all times. We encourage parents to bring infant-sized or appropriately fitted life jackets; if you would like to use ours, please let us know beforehand so we can have them ready.
Guests are welcome to bring their own food and alcoholic beverages. However, we do not recommend red wine, colored juices, or staining foods to prevent damage to the yacht’s interior and upholstery. A damage / cleaning fee will be charged.
Yes, we partner with reputable local caterers to offer a variety of menu options to enhance your charter experience. We can accommodate various dietary needs and preferences. Please inquire about our catering packages when booking.
Our yacht is equipped with a premium sound system, and you are welcome to play your own music via Bluetooth.
Yes, our yacht is equipped with two restroom facilities (heads).
We suggest that guests bring: Bottled Water, Ice, Beverages & Snacks, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Bathing suit & towel (if swimming), and Phone Chargers.

Yes, our yacht is perfect for birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and various other social gatherings. We can tailor the experience to suit your specific needs and preferences.
Definitely! Items such as glitter, confetti, or open flame items (fireworks, sparklers, candles) are not allowed. Balloons, cakes, costumes, props, water toys, and flowers are welcome. Depending on other bookings, we cannot always guarantee early boarding to set up decorations before your start time.
No, we do not allow any shoes to be worn on the boat. We will collect your shoes and return them at the end of your charter.
In accordance with USCG bareboat charter guidelines we do not allow tie ups while under charter.
Guests may cruise the Chicago River, but all vessels must pass through the Chicago Locks, which may take up to an hour each way. This can significantly reduce your charter time if you go on a high – traffic day. To ensure a smooth experience, please notify us and your hired captain in advance. Please note, a $150 fuel surcharge fee will apply.
No, all of our charters are private. You will only be with your own group of friends and family.
